Any Chance Bush Will Read This?

In Mount Vernon, Va. today President Bush gave a speech at George Washington’s home in honor of his 275th birthday. He decided this was a great chance to compare himself to yet another great American President (a sort of Ying-Yang type thing I suppose) and try to justify his Iraq policies. This guy is getting beyond lame duck and into just sad.

Mr. President, please read this. I hate to see you unknowingly create such great satire.

“(W)e remember that the father of our country believed that the freedoms we secured in our revolution were not meant for Americans alone."

I do not believe George Washington, or the first George W as you referred to him, intended this to mean what you think it to mean. This is not a statement intended to justify starting wars in other countries. It is a statement intended to defend your freedoms. It means that all people are free, not just Americans. It’s just that not all nations recognize those freedoms. That Sir is what makes us such a great country.

"On the field of battle, Washington's forces were facing a mighty empire, and the odds against them were overwhelming. The ragged Continental Army lost more battles than it won, suffered waves of desertions, and stood on the brink of disaster many times. Yet George Washington's calm hand and determination kept the cause of independence and the principles of our Declaration alive."

Mr. President, I think you should refrain from using the Revolutionary War imagery to sell the Iraq war. In this case, it is we that are the mighty empire and the odds were with us. We are not the ragged army in Iraq and we have not suffered waves of desertions. The only brink of disaster is your handling of the war, Sir.

General Washington and the Minutemen were insurgents Mr. President. They broke all the rules of war and used many of the same tactics those we are fighting in Iraq are using today. They went as far as to dress up as Indians (not wearing their uniforms when attacking) to board ships and toss tea into the harbor. If that is not terrorism, what is? Had they access to IED’s I guarantee you they would have used them as well. I think when one is defending their home against an invading army they tend to do whatever will work. They usually win as well because the invading army has to go home at sometime.

"After winning the war, Washington did what victorious leaders rarely did at the time. He voluntarily gave up power.”

Mr. President, you are still in power in Iraq. In reality, you are sending more troops to Iraq and preparing our country for a completely new war in that nation. You declared victory in 2003 yet require more troops in 2007. Had you voluntarily given up power instead of constantly changing the goals we would not be where we are today. Finding weapons of mass destruction quickly became overthrowing Saddam. Not long after the statue fell, it became to help the Iraqis have an election; then another election; then write a constitution; then have another election. They do not believe you ever intend to leave.

"Over the centuries, America has succeeded because we have always tried to maintain the decency and the honor of our first president.”

This was true Mr. President and it was true right up until you invaded Iraq. I wish to G-d that you would study the words you just spoke today and would study the history of the nation you proclaim to love. We are repeating history right now so we already know you did not learn it. We are repeating all the worst aspects of all the lost wars and I beg you to end it.

Stop spinning this disaster and stop looking for a way to salvage your legacy. Go down in history as a leader who learned from his mistakes. That will make you stand out Sir because no leader has done that yet.

Doesn't making the President understand this require logic and reasoning; that of which he clearly lacks? Might as well ride out the storm of his term and hope the damage is repairable...

Yes Mr. President, just lay down like a coward and cry lke a baby.....The only way for America to win, is to declare defeat and run like pansies from the bad men with towels on their heads.....Who cares abouthe troops, they were all just too stupid to make it in real life anyways so they ended up stuck in Iraq, terrorizing innocent women and children in the dead of night....

Get out now Mr. President, don't even try to snatch victory from the defeat the American people so desperately want.....Do not reinforce troop levels and attempt to pacify the inusrgency in Iraq....just let geoncide happen and ignore it, that is all the American people demand....

Who cares if you are the grandson of a Senator, the son of a President, the brother of a Govenor, the two time Govenor of Texas, and the two time President of the United States? You must be an ignorant idiot, because you don't consdider yourself stupid like the rest of us Americans...

Just accpet defeat Mr. President, resign and hand over control of the country to brillinat brainwashers like Mikey Moore and MSNBC......The only true American hates you Mr. President and wants the United States to totally fail in this endeavor....

Since the last election I've realized that at least 50 million people are stupider than bush.

Being the son of or brother of means nothing. I am the son of a doctor so would you like me operating on you?

The people in Iraq causing the terror are Iraqis. This is a civil war we have no place in. Our war ended long ago.

Defeat in Iraq would be Saddam regaining control since that is what we went to take care of. He is dead so there is little chance of him taking back Iraq. War over.

He's a massive embarrassment.

And worse. So much worse.

So you are for genocide Kanrei? You are for abandoning our commitment as a nation and abanodoning the Iraq people for the SECOND time in the last 20 years?

Are you for declaring defeat without exhausting the options which may lead to victory?

Do you think leaving Germany in 1948 would have been the prudent thing to do? Do you think tucking our tails behind our legs and running like cowards is the best course of action?

I know you were looking for a debate....I need the awnsers to those questions so I can fomrulate my next response! ;)

P.S. the war is far far far from over...Iraq is the middle piece in the puzzle, this is a World War, not a regional conflict.....If there is any valid complaint about President Bush, it is his inability to relay that effectively to the American people....

Sorry I was gone so long. I got sucked into "To Catch a Predator." Damn that is just a creepy show. More on that in a few though.

Interesting point of view Rex. That is why I do so love our debates. I see things I never would on my own. I do not think leaving now is abandoning them again. We removed Saddam from power so what happens next is up to them. They can have a stable country or a horrible one. We gave them the tools and held their hands long enough.

Are you for declaring defeat without exhausting the options which may lead to victory? You know my perspective on this one: we already won. We won the war in 45 days. We are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq.

Do you think leaving Germany in 1948 would have been the prudent thing to do? The insurgency in Germany (the Wolf Brigade I think they were called) only lasted about 6 months. It was also not German versus German for the most part. It was remaining Nazis versus Americans. Iraq today is Iraqi versus Iraqi- our leaving or staying will not slow down the war, but our leaving guarantees no more of ours get killed.

Do you think tucking our tails behind our legs and running like cowards is the best course of action? I do not see it leaving like that. We are keeping our word. We told the world we were not nation building, we were defending America. We told the world we had no interest in staying. I am holding us to that.

Serena,
I am going to write something else as to not make my Y chromosome lemmings feel unloved.

PS- Rex, one day our debates will be read like Madison and Jefferson's debates.
