Shame on NBC

The Dixie Chicks have a movie documenting their rise and fall from national grace called "Shut up and Sing." The documentary opens nationwide on November 10th, but NBC refuses to air the ads for the movie because it "cannot accept these spots as they are disparaging to President Bush."

Harvey Weinstein who runs the production company releasing the film had this to say:

"It's a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America. The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is sad and profoundly un-American."

Amen Harvey, amen.

Remeber I did not call for "Path to 9/11" to be taken off the air nor did I call for a boycott of it. This pre-emptive censorship to save the country is killing this country faster than the terrorists who have that stated goal.

I think NBC is just cutting its own throat. It doesn't matter what a particular entertainer's political viewpoint is. We're adults. We can separate politics from entertainment. I don't happen to care for the opinions of Tom Cruise or Paris Hilton, but I haven't noticed anyone yanking them off the air to "protect my sensitivities."

The Dixie Ditz's dug there own grave......You don't spit on the your audience and the country and western crowd is firmly behind the President.....
I personally think NBC should have kept their commitment, but that being said, they do have a business to run and if they feel the idiot Dixie Chicks hurt them int he pocket book, they have every right to cancel....

Free speech is a two way street....

If The Chicks are free to say what they want where they want,Is NBC not afforded the same freedom to show what they want when they want?(within FCC guidelines of course)

It is more than a two way street. Just as NBC has the right to not show the ad because it is bad for Bush I have the right to say they are crap for it.
When you look at the crap they do accept ads for I cannot understand not accepting ads for this movie. They advertise Saw 3 and that is nothing but torture.

I never said you didn't have the right to call NBC on it...

Hey, maybe the Dixie Chicks should team up on tour with Mel Gibson and have some kind of celebrity "whoops" theme to it.
