I'm just saying we were told things stateside that turned out not to be true. Is it so much to just tell the truth without embellishing it?rkfinnellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12375756276776255824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-57410051367377847382006-12-10T17:57:00.000-05:002006-12-10T17:57:00.000-05:00trMicfIn the early years of Hitler’s European aggr...trMicfIn the early years of Hitler’s European aggression (late 1930‘s), British, French & Italian leaders practiced a foreign policy known as appeasement. They acquiesced, back-pedaled, shied away from Nazi agression, feeling Germany had some legitimate grievances from WWI and maybe you could meet them halfway. These statesmen were enormously popular at the time, because they avoided conflict and thus were seen to stand for peace. Had they confronted Hitler from the beginning, there might have been no holocaust and total deaths from the conflict would have been a fraction of the 48 million who ultimately died in WWII. Btu they didn’t want to be seen as warmongers. They wanted peace.

Is the situation with Islamic extremists today the same as in the late 1930’s? I’ve no idea. Serena Joy is right. You only know these things after the event, not before. I don’t write so as to support the current policy. No. I’m not a hawk. But young people today rarely even consider the possibility…it all happened so long before they were around. There are some pretty good parallels. 911 is roughly equivalent to Pearl Harbor. Bush is portrayed as a bloodthirsty fanatic who just likes to kill people. Is he a nutcase or a visionary? History will tell. As for me, I doubt that humans have any answer…every passing year witnesses new peaks in viciousness….and so I believe the answer lies in spiritual themes involving God’s Kingdom, which I most frequently blog about, not politics.tom sheepandgoatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03519896568648043000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-22323468970682775542006-12-09T17:56:00.000-05:002006-12-09T17:56:00.000-05:00The destructiona and rape of Kuwait was real, not ...The destructiona and rape of Kuwait was real, not propoganda....I saw it...Rex Zeitgeisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08642575223837309912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-73052671966509989352006-12-09T07:49:00.000-05:002006-12-09T07:49:00.000-05:00We were given propaganda and loads of it concernin...We were given propaganda and loads of it concerning The Gulf War. It was difficult to separate what is true from what wasn't.
I found out I was pregnant when that war started and watched it unfold on CSPAN. It ended before my son was born. Now here we are again, my son is 15 with no sign of this war ending and that scares me.rkfinnellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12375756276776255824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-18656192888356201602006-12-09T02:23:00.000-05:002006-12-09T02:23:00.000-05:00I can see your opinion Serena, everyone forms thei...I can see your opinion Serena, everyone forms theirs by their life experiences.....

So you know, I am Army veteran of the first Gulf War.....On the day they were to send in ground troops, my HumVee broke down....

We stopped in a convoy and were working on the engine.....A E-7 (sargent 1st class) came over to check on us and lend a hand....We were parked on a hill and someone forgot to set their brakes further up the hill.....The vehicles rolled forward and smashed together, crushing us between the HumVee and another vehicle.....

The E-7 died on the scene, the mechanic lost his leg, and I had my left knee crushed.....I have wanted to get Saddam since the day I went to Kuwait, I saw the vicious 'rape of Kuwait' Saddam ordered.....I wanted him dead with every fiber of my being....The fact that he is in a jail cell comforts me......

Everyday since I left the army, I wanted to get Saddam Hussein.....every single day.....Rex Zeitgeisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08642575223837309912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-33627487589709418062006-12-09T02:21:00.000-05:002006-12-09T02:21:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Rex Zeitgeisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08642575223837309912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30951741.post-27943617340197633072006-12-08T21:41:00.000-05:002006-12-08T21:41:00.000-05:00Everyone is so convinced they are right that they ...Everyone is so convinced they are right that they will not even listen to anyone else so why bother?

I understand what you're saying. That's the biggest reason I try to avoid talking politics -- everyone has an opinion on which they're unwilling to waver. It leads to hard feelings and arguments with people you really don't want to argue with.

My personal feeling is that we ought to get out of Iraq ASAP and, in fact, never should have gone in in the first place. A lot of people don't agree with me, and that's fine. It's just an opinion.Serenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00798532682456165053noreply@blogger.com
